Still have gas heating or hot water? These savings come once the cooktop is your last gas appliance and the connection goes. Switching your hot water too gets you there: see our heat pump hot water comparison.
Estimates only. "How much you cook" is the gas a gas cooktop would use in a year; the heat that actually reaches the pan is worked out from it using US Department of Energy test efficiencies (gas about 38%, induction about 84%). We use the same efficiency for every induction cooktop, so the model you pick changes the power check and quote, not the saving. The gas supply charge is removed because the connection is closed. Totals don’t allow for future price changes.

Replacing a gas cooktop? There's a rebate. Victorian Energy Upgrades offers an indicative discount of about $140 on an eligible induction cooktop when it replaces a gas cooktop in a home at least 2 years old. The discount is processed by a VEU accredited provider using your invoice and a recent gas bill. Addison Appliances is not an accredited provider, so we don't apply it on our quote, but we handle the installation and can point you to the provider list. How it works

Not sure your home can handle it?

Send us a photo of your switchboard and the cooktop you like, and we’ll come back with a prompt quote. We check your switchboard is compatible, and we’re happy to help you choose.

Measure the hole, not the old cooktop. The glass hides the cut-out, and the cut-out decides whether your new cooktop drops straight in or needs the bench cut.
Installation nuances

Existing circuit or a new one? The three ways a cooktop gets wired in

This is the detail that changes an installation the most, and it rarely makes the brochure. Every cooktop here is hardwired, not plugged in, and runs on standard single-phase power. What changes is whether the circuit to the kitchen is already there.

Isolation switch Existing circuit checked Same cut-out, or we enlarge it
Setup 1

Electric to induction swap

Existing cooktop circuit

Replacing an electric cooktop is usually the quickest job. Very often the existing circuit is suitable, and we check it before anything goes in.

  • We check the cable size, breaker rating and safety switch (RCBO) protection
  • The new cooktop goes into the existing cut-out, or we enlarge it
  • An isolation switch near the cooktop, if there isn’t one already
New dedicated circuit usually 32 A RCBO if needed Gas capped
Setup 2

Gas to induction conversion

New circuit from the switchboard

Our plumber caps the gas off first. Our electrician then runs a new dedicated circuit from the switchboard, sized to the cooktop and usually 32 A.

  • Switchboard upgrades are very rare
  • Sometimes a new safety switch (RCBO) is needed
  • Sometimes the bench is cut to fit the new cooktop
L1 · L2 · L3 Three-phase supply rarely needed 2 or 3 phases, per manual
Setup 3

Three-phase connection

Rare, and rarely needed

Home induction cooktops run on a single-phase 32 A circuit, including the 10.4 kW and 11.1 kW models here, which share or limit their power to suit. Three-phase only comes into it in a few cases.

  • Very large cooktops wired across two or three phases for full power, where the manual allows it (ASKO’s 11 kW Celsius models and Pitt list this)
  • Homes already running heavy loads at once, such as an EV charger, ducted electric heating or a pool heater, where the total supply matters more than the cooktop circuit
  • Homes that already have three-phase, where spreading big appliances across the phases keeps the load balanced
Converting from gas?

We disconnect the gas, run the circuit and fit your new cooktop

It’s the question we’re asked most. You don’t need to organise a separate plumber, electrician or stonemason: our plumber disconnects and caps the gas, our electrician runs the new circuit from your switchboard, and our team cuts the bench if the new cooktop needs it.

Watch: 7 things to know before converting from gas to induction (4 min)

Swapping an electric cooktop?

Very often your existing circuit is ready to go

We check the cable, breaker and safety switch, then fit the new cooktop into the existing cut-out or enlarge it on the day.

Watch: what our team checks on an electric to electric changeover (1.5 min)

Our rule on cooktop circuits: on an electric to induction swap, the existing circuit is very often fine. On a gas conversion there's rarely a cooktop circuit at all, so we run a new one. Either way, our team confirms the suitability of your switchboard before installation is undertaken, and a photo of it with your enquiry lets us tell you upfront rather than on the day. Read more in our guide to electrical requirements for appliance installations.

Will it fit your benchtop? If not, we make it fit.

The glass sits on top of the bench and hides the hole underneath, so the size of your old cooktop says little about the size of its cut-out. Around 40 to 50% of the cooktops we install need the bench cut, and that's a good thing: it means you can choose the cooktop you want rather than the one that happens to fit the old hole.

Hole too small Routine: we cut the stone old hole Hole too big Fixed: stainless frame or filler panel new glass

We cut stone in-house. Our team is WorkSafe approved for benchtop stone cutting, so enlarging a cut-out is done on the same job, not by a separate trade weeks later. A hole that’s too big can be solved too: a stainless steel frame or filler panel closes the gap around the new glass.

How to measure for a new cooktop

  1. Measure the hole, not the glass. From the cupboard underneath, measure the opening the cooktop body sits in, left to right and front to back.
  2. Find the old model number. It’s on the rating plate under the cooktop, and its manual lists the exact cut-out.
  3. Measure the bench. Its depth from the front edge to the wall, and its thickness.

Send us the numbers and a photo, and we’ll tell you whether your new cooktop drops straight in, needs the bench cut or needs a filler panel. Unsure? Going slightly bigger is the safer choice: we can always enlarge a hole.

Check my cut-out

Clearance above, and what sits below

  • Rangehood height. Induction can be installed legally with 600 mm to the rangehood, compared with 650 mm for gas. Some brands ask for 700 to 750 mm to reduce the chance of condensation, and Fisher & Paykel’s guide for the CI905ZDTB5 says 650 mm. The higher of the cooktop and rangehood figures always wins.
  • Ovens below. A cooktop needs cooling air underneath. ASKO asks for a partition at least 20 mm below the cooktop and only fan-cooled ovens beneath it. Fisher & Paykel asks for a 65 mm minimum cavity with a gap at the front and rear.
  • Drawers below. Leave room for the chassis and airflow. Most glass cooktops here are 47 to 54 mm deep overall. The Pitt sits much lower: 118 mm below the top of the bench with its support bars.
  • Isolation switch. We fit an isolation switch so the cooktop can be turned off at the wall. It goes within 2 m of the cooktop and not inside a cupboard.
600 mm min some brands 700 to 750 Vent gap Oven or drawer

Pairing a rangehood

Most brands here can switch the rangehood on and set its speed for you while you cook, but only with a matching hood from the same brand.

Warranty & build

Warranties compared, brand by brand

Cooktop warranties run from 2 to 5 years, and the headline number isn't the whole story. Some brands state parts and labour in writing, some have conditions on how the cooktop is connected, and a few run time-limited extended offers. Here's every model broken down the same way.

Boost vs continuous power: boost is a short burst, limited to a few minutes, that borrows power from neighbouring zones to bring a pot to the boil fast. Continuous power is what a zone holds all evening. That's why a cooktop can list a 3.7 kW zone and still only have 7.4 kW for all five zones together.
Timers differ in detail (per-zone auto-off, minute minders, count-up timers); every glass model here has one, while Pitt doesn’t list a timer. "Not listed" means the manufacturer doesn't advertise the feature, not necessarily that it's missing. Wi-Fi models need a decent signal at the cooktop; we connect the app at handover if you'd like it.

All four models here are made in Spain. The Series 4 PUE611BB5H is the low-load option at 4.6 kW, which suits more existing circuits. The Series 6 models add DirectSelect controls, PerfectFry Plus (a frying sensor with 11 temperature settings), Home Connect Wi-Fi and cook2hood, which switches on a matching Bosch rangehood for you.

Installation notes from our team
  • The PIV931HC1E is rated at 11.1 kW, more than a 32 A circuit carries at full power. Bosch builds in a power limitation setting (in 500 W steps), and our electrician sets it to suit the circuit. You only notice it with several zones on high at once.
  • All four use Bosch’s standard cut-outs: 560 × 490 mm at 60 cm, 750 × 490 mm at 80 cm and 880 × 490 mm at 90 cm, with a minimum 16 mm benchtop.
  • The frameless glass sits slightly raised above the bench, rather than flush.
  • cook2hood and Home Connect need the cooktop on your Wi-Fi; we can pair it at handover.

Siemens iQ300

The Siemens iQ300 EH675LDC1E is a three-zone 60 cm cooktop built around one big idea: a 32 cm triple ring that boosts to 5.5 kW, the most powerful single zone in this guide. It suits people who boil big pots or cook with large pans more than people who run four small pans at once. It is made in Spain, has a fryingSensor Plus with 5 temperature settings, and Siemens backs it with 5 years.

  • Uses the common 560 × 490 mm cut-out, so it usually drops into an existing 60 cm opening.
  • Siemens asks for a minimum 30 mm benchtop, thicker than most brands here, which suits stone.
  • Three zones still meets the VEU rebate requirement of three or more independently controlled zones.

What the specs mean

The most power the cooktop can draw with everything on high. It tells our electrician what circuit the cooktop needs. It is an installation number, not a performance score: a 7.4 kW cooktop and an 11.1 kW cooktop can boil a pot just as fast on one zone.
Each zone has a continuous rating it can hold all evening, and a boost rating it can run for a few minutes to bring a pot to the boil. Boost borrows power from neighbouring zones, so you can rarely boost every zone at once. "Most powerful zone (boost)" in this guide is the highest single-zone figure each manufacturer publishes.
Every induction cooktop shares its total power between zones. Several brands (Bosch, NEFF, Electrolux and ASKO here) also let the installer cap the total to suit a smaller circuit. The cooktop still works normally; only when several zones are on high at once does it trim the others.
Zone count tells you how many pans fit at once. Zone size matters for the pan you use most: a small pan on a big zone heats fine, but a big pan on a small zone heats only in the middle. Most models here have one large zone of 21 to 32 cm.
Bridge and flex zones join two zones so a long roasting tray, griddle or fish kettle heats end to end. Some join automatically when they detect the pan (ASKO Auto Bridge, NEFF Flex). A triple ring (Bosch PIV931HC1E, Siemens EH675LDC1E) grows one round zone from 21 to 32 cm instead.
The hole in the benchtop the cooktop drops into. The glass is always bigger than the cut-out, so it hides the hole. A new cooktop can go into a hole that is too small (we enlarge it) but not one that is too big.
How tall the cooktop is overall, most of which sits below the benchtop. It matters when there is a drawer or oven underneath. Fisher & Paykel asks for a 65 mm cavity; the Pitt sits 118 mm deep.
The circuit breaker size we’d normally install or check for that model, based on its connected load and the manufacturer’s installation guide. Your own switchboard and cable run decide the final answer.
Our electricians choose the cable from the cooktop’s load and the length of the run back to the switchboard. Common sizes are 4 mm² for moderate loads, 6 mm² for higher loads, and 10 mm² for long runs or heavy-duty appliances. Under about 12 kW, a cooktop usually runs on a 32 A circuit with 6 mm² cable, which suits most changeovers. Above that, or on a long run, a heavier 10 mm² cable may be needed, which is a more involved installation. Every cooktop in this guide is under 12 kW. More in our guide to electrical requirements for appliance installations.
Where the manufacturer builds that model, from the country-of-origin data retailers publish (checked October 2026). A brand’s home country and its factory are often different.
The recommended retail price for the cooktop only, from our reviews site in October 2026. It doesn’t include installation, and any VEU rebate isn’t deducted.
FAQs

Questions we get on almost every quote

If a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the base, it will work. Cast iron, enamelled cast iron, carbon steel and most stainless steel with a magnetic base are fine. Aluminium, copper, glass and ceramic won’t heat unless they have an induction-ready base, and some stainless pans are only partly magnetic. Bases should be flat, and very small pans may not be detected: Pitt, for example, asks for a base of at least 110 mm. Many of our customers replace a few pans and keep the rest.
Victorian Energy Upgrades offers an indicative discount of about $140 (based on a $70 certificate price, so it moves) on an eligible induction cooktop. You need to be a Victorian household replacing an existing gas cooktop in a home built at least 2 years ago, and not have claimed the discount before. The cooktop must be built-in (or a freestanding cooker with an induction top), electric only, at least 550 × 380 mm, with three or more independently controlled zones and at least a 2-year warranty. Electric to induction swaps don’t qualify. The discount is processed by a VEU accredited provider using your invoice and a recent gas bill. Addison Appliances is not an accredited provider for cooktops, so we don’t apply it on our quote; we handle the installation, and the provider list is on energy.vic.gov.au.
Very often, yes, when you are replacing an electric cooktop. Our electrician checks the cable size, the breaker rating, safety switch (RCBO) protection and the isolation switch. Where a model draws more than the circuit carries, some brands let us set a power limit to suit; otherwise we upgrade the circuit. Use the power check above to see where your model sits.
Our plumber caps the gas off first. Our electrician then runs a new dedicated circuit from the switchboard, sized to the cooktop, usually 32 A, because there’s rarely an existing cooktop circuit. Switchboard upgrades are very rare. Sometimes a new safety switch (RCBO) is needed, and sometimes the bench is cut to fit the new cooktop. Our plumbers, electricians and stone cutters do it as one job.
About half the time. Around 40 to 50% of the cooktops we install need the bench cut. A cut-out that is too small is routine: our WorkSafe-approved team cuts stone in-house. A cut-out that is too big is solvable too: a stainless steel frame or filler panel closes the gap around the new glass. The cut-out table in the installation section shows every model.
Rarely. Home induction cooktops run on a single-phase 32 A circuit, and that includes the 10.4 kW Fisher & Paykel and 11.1 kW Bosch in this guide, which share or limit their power to suit. Three-phase comes into it in three cases: a very large cooktop wired across phases to run at full power, where its manual allows it; a home already running several heavy loads at once (an EV charger, ducted electric heating, a pool heater), where the total supply is the limit rather than the cooktop circuit; or a home that already has three-phase, where we spread big appliances across the phases to keep them balanced. It doesn’t make a cooktop cook better, and our team confirms the suitability of your switchboard before installation is undertaken.
Induction can be installed legally with 600 mm between the cooktop and the rangehood, compared with 650 mm for gas. Some brands ask for 700 to 750 mm to reduce the chance of condensation (Fisher & Paykel says 650 mm for the CI905ZDTB5), and the higher of the cooktop and rangehood figures wins. Switching from gas often lets an existing hood stay where it is.
Bosch. It is our most popular induction brand, the most reviewed by our customers, and Bosch generally has a good service team behind it. That said, every cooktop in this guide is one we’re happy to install, and the right one depends on your kitchen, your cut-out and how you cook.
The biggest win comes from getting off gas entirely. Once the cooktop is your last gas appliance, closing the connection removes the daily supply charge, worth around $350 to $400 a year according to the Victorian Government, and the calculator above shows what that adds up to over 10 or 15 years. If you still have gas hot water or heating, switching those too gets you there; our heat pump hot water comparison covers hot water. Beyond the bills, induction is faster, quicker to wipe clean and puts no combustion fumes into the kitchen.
Installation

What an installation actually involves

Whichever cooktop suits your kitchen, the process with our team looks the same, with plumbing, electrical and stone cutting handled in-house.

1

Photos & Recommendation

Send photos of your current cooktop, the cupboard underneath and your switchboard. We confirm your switchboard is suitable, along with the circuit, the cut-out and the rangehood height, then quote.

2

One-Team Installation

We cap the gas if there is any, run or check the circuit, cut the benchtop if the new cooktop needs it, and fit the cooktop and isolation switch.

3

Testing & Handover

We test every zone, set any power limit to suit your circuit, pair the rangehood link or app if you have one, and walk you through the controls.

Not sure which cooktop suits your kitchen?

Tell us what you cook on now and send a few photos. We'll recommend the right cooktop for your cut-out and circuit, and quote the whole job, from capping the gas to cutting the bench.
